On November 9, the Christian Life Community (CVX) in Paraguay held its National Assembly, a regular gathering for reflection, discernment, and planning that brought together representatives from its various communities. In this South American country, marked by a bilingual cultural identity — Guaraní and Spanish — and significant social challenges, CVX carries out its mission in close collaboration with the Church and the Society of Jesus, striving to integrate spiritual life, social engagement, and lay leadership in service to the nation.
In preparation for the Assembly, the National Executive Committee (CEN) visited communities across the country to gather insights and motivations regarding CVX’s three pillars: Spirituality, Community, and Mission. These contributions were carefully reviewed during the Assembly to identify areas of continuity and priorities for growth. This process of listening and joint discernment shaped the spirit of the meeting, serving as a moment of grace to reflect on past achievements and to plan future steps with both realism and hope.
A highlight of the Assembly was the presentation of the outgoing CEN’s report by President Alberto Grijalba Cabrera, who noted: “As the Executive Council, we aimed for these two years to be a period of strengthening and growth, deepening the three pillars of our charism, fostering unity, fraternal listening, and a sense of community. We worked closely together, making decisions collaboratively, and striving for communication that is sincere, open, assertive, and supportive. United in Christ, our motto is ‘to be more in order to serve better.’”
The Assembly then elected the new Service Board for the 2025–2027 term, ensuring both continuity and institutional renewal. Community members proposed the nominations, following a process of consultation and confirmation of availability by the candidates. The new CEN includes: Carlos Benítez (President), Fernando Quintana (Vice President), Kathya Jara and María Ferreira (Secretaries), Ana Romero (Treasurer), Patricia Flores and Roberto Álvarez (Formation Members), Ami Cabrera (Communications Member), Liliana Benítez (Principal Trustee), Julio Maidana (Alternate Trustee), and Fr. Alberto Luna, SJ (Ecclesiastical Advisor).
Looking ahead, priorities for the coming term include strengthening Ignatian formation, revitalizing outreach to young people, reinforcing mission commitments, and engaging with the realities of the country and public policy. Among CVX Paraguay’s mission initiatives are El Reloj de la Familia [The Family Clock], the Escuelita Mágica CAPI [The Little Magic School]— a pedagogical support center in Bañado Sur, Asunción — and weekly collaboration at the Comedor de los Abuelos Pepe Valpuesta and Pa’i Oliva [Dining Room of the Grandfathers].
These initiatives reflect CVX’s ongoing commitment to human development, education, and support for vulnerable communities, in alignment with the global apostolic mission of the Christian Life Community.
