The CLC in Kenya held its 13th National Assembly from 30th May to 1st June 2025 at the Assumption Sisters of Nairobi Retreat House, near Thika Town. The assembly’s theme, “CLC K @36: Journeying Together in Sustainable Paths of Hope,” marked 36 years of grace-filled mission and community life.
A total of thirty-seven delegates participated, representing four regions and nine university communities.
Day One: Opening and Mission Reports
The assembly commenced on 30th May with a solemn Opening Mass celebrated by Fr. Odomaro Mubangizi, S.J., representing the Jesuit Provincial of Eastern Africa. In his keynote address, Fr. Odomaro reflected on the assembly theme, linking it to major ecclesial movements such as the Synod on Synodality and the Jubilee Year, affirming CLC’s alignment with the Universal Church.
The afternoon was dedicated to mission area reports, highlighting progress and challenges in:
- St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School
- Zaidi Centre for Ignatian Spirituality
- Mazingira Afya Project for Youth on Ecology
- Financial stewardship and sustainability
Day Two: Discernment and Apostolic Vision
On 31st May, delegates engaged in communal discernment and strategic planning for the next two and a half years. Fr. George Macharia, S.J. (simply known as Mash), celebrated the day’s Eucharist and inspired delegates to dream boldly and embrace their prophetic call in apostolic service.
Day Three: Elections, Commitments, and Celebration
The final day, 1st June, was both open and closing, welcoming members from nearby communities and Nairobi. The day began with the election of the new Executive Council (ExCo), followed by the confirmation of the mandate document to guide CLC Kenya’s mission until 2027.
Bishop Rodrigo Mejía, S.J. presided over the Closing Mass, during which:
- Four members made their Temporary Commitment
- One member renewed his commitment
- The newly elected ExCo was commissioned
- The outgoing ExCo was honored for their dedicated service
In his homily, Bishop Rodrigo urged members to “walk together and remain united in heart and mind.”
The assembly concluded with a shared lunch and cake-cutting ceremony, joyfully commemorating 36 years of CLC’s journey in Kenya.
