At the beginning of June, the CLC’s so-called delegates’ meeting in Germany took place near Augsburg. Every two years, representatives from our diocesan and regional communities and the various working groups meet with our Executive Committee to reflect on recent activities, clarify the next steps through a joint discernment process, and elect the new Executive Committee.
A key focus was our ‘Future Process’, which we launched in spring 2026 with the question: What course must we set now to ensure that, in ten years’ time, we are still a vibrant community that appeals to those on a spiritual journey and makes its contribution to the Church and society? From the outset, this process was designed as a communal discernment – within the committees of our national community; through a workshop based on the ESDAC method in early January involving 23 members, selected to reflect as far as possible the diversity and complexity of the CLC in Germany; via a survey of everyone who feels part of our community; and through regular newsletters to keep everyone informed. There is broad agreement that Ignatian spirituality is our core strength and that community is seen by all as a major asset. At the same time, there is a desire for greater openness – for example, towards young people or those who feel they are on the margins of the Church – and for diversity. Do we agree on our ‘treasures’ – and what is our goal? In accordance with the principle and foundation of the Spiritual Exercises, the CLC is not an end in itself, but a means “to follow Jesus Christ more closely and work with Him for the building of the Kingdom” (AGr 4).
We will continue to work on these questions over the next two years. There was agreement, amongst other things, that ‘socio-ecological transformation’ will remain a key focus and that we wish to further intensify our work with and for young people. A year ago, we created a part-time position for this purpose, which we also intend to secure financially in the medium term.
And for many of us, it was a sign of encouragement that we were able to affiliate the CLC in the Archdiocese of Hamburg as a diocesan community.
After ten years on the Executive Committee, eight of them as Chair, we thanked and bid farewell to Andreas Kolloczek. The new Executive Committee has already set out on its journey, encouraged by the strong support of the delegates and the shared desire to help shape the Church and society to the best of our ability.
